OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. OMVIC’s mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer/salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used); providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing/delivering consumer and dealer education/awareness programs; and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

For 25 years, the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) has functioned as the province’s vehicle sales regulator and played a vital role in the lives of consumers. The organization’s mandate is to be the trusted voice to consumers and set the standards for the 8,000 registered car dealers and 30,000 salespeople in Ontario.
Reporting to the Chief Consumer Protection Officer, the Director of Communications and Public Affairs will lead the Communications Department.
As a member of the senior management team, the Director will contribute to organizational planning and operations. Responsibilities include developing and delivering messages to diverse audiences, enhancing OMVIC’s reputation, and fostering effective stakeholder relationships, including the media.
The Director will oversee a team of managers and staff that delivers on all aspects of communications: internal and external communications, branding, reputation, events, and meetings as well as content and delivery for automotive education programs. They are also active in board and government relations, issues management and media relations. It’s a busy team that needs an experienced and empathetic leader who brings a combination of big-picture perspective and roll-up-the-sleeves pragmatism.
