Founded in 1997, the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is the regulatory corporation responsible for administering and enforcing the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.
In determining future direction and priorities, the Council must consider changes in what is today a dynamic, evolving marketplace. An immediate priority for the Council is the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer and Registrar.
Recognized for having established high standards in this important marketplace, OMVIC must continue to raise the bar. As an industry leader, OMVIC’s role is to protect consumers and promote professionalism, ensuring regulatory compliance among Ontario’s 8,000 dealerships and 30,000 salespeople. With a capable, professional team of approximately 140 full-time employees and an engaged Board of Directors, you will ensure that, as a regulator, OMVIC is kept abreast of changes and embraces innovation while always maintaining an absolute focus on the consumer. Four strategic goals guide the Council in all its activities: consumer protection and awareness; serving as a trusted and respected partner by engaging stakeholders; registrant professionalism and accountability; and organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Adding to the complexity of the mandate are continuing changes in the external and regulatory environment. Engaging with consumers, industry stakeholders and government officials will be an ongoing priority. Internally, the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar will foster and support a team-based culture that champions customer service excellence and continuous improvement.
Given the significant responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, OMVIC requires a strategic leader skilled at communicating with industry stakeholders, the government and the public. Highly respected with a reputation for integrity and professionalism, you bring a progressive risk management perspective to this mandate. With a high level of political acuity and an understanding of the consumer marketplace, you will ensure that OMVIC continues to elevate consumer awareness and protection while harnessing the knowledge and commitment of the industry. Experience working with a governance board will be essential.
