BCCNM is the college empowered under the Health Professions Act to regulate the practice of all licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, registered midwives, registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses in British Columbia. If you answered YES, the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is looking for a confident, self-motivated HR professional to join our People & Talent team. Many exciting initiatives are underway! You will have opportunities to tackle projects big and small while paying close attention to the needs of your client groups. This role reports to the Director, People & Talent and is an integral part of the People team of six staff. Every day is different and we promise no day is ever boring! You will have a variety of responsibilities including full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and policy interpretation and guidance.
In addition to solid technical HR knowledge and superb organizational skills, you are an excellent communicator and collaborator comfortable working with stakeholders throughout the organization. Bonus points if you have experience with HRIS implementation.
The HR Generalist deals with highly sensitive and confidential matters that can have a significant impact on the College overall. This position works independently to balance priorities and workflow to provide efficient and effective support to staff within the College. The HR Generalist follows policies and procedures and receives general guidance on specific tasks. The nature of the work is at times complex and demanding, and requires adaptability to ensure time-driven goals and deadlines are achieved. The HR Generalist exercises initiative, judgment, and problem-solving skills to complete their work.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment by posting jobs online, screening, creating interview guides, coordinating and conducting interviews, reference checks, administering background checks, developing offer letters and providing onboarding
- Create and maintain a variety of documents, mostly of a confidential nature, including but not limited to: offer letters, employee performance plans, correspondence, organizational charts, letters including letters of discipline, job descriptions, postings, reports, external compensation surveys
- Advise staff on HR process or procedure and providing solutions to issues
- Support Professional Development and Performance Management processes by meeting with assigned client groups, creating reports and following up with stakeholders within agreed upon timelines
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for our HRIS
- Enter all people related information in the College’s HRIS and produce and analyze a variety of reports to maintain the integrity of our system
- Actively support organization culture through Committee work and participation
- Support continuous improvement by researching and advising on HR process efficiencies
- Research and compile information for the preparation of presentations and reports, the content of which may result in significant and confidential changes related to any aspect of the people and talent infrastructure
- Participate in a variety of projects as directed by Chief Officer, Communications & People and Director, People & Talent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, plus 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent level of education, training and experience
- Advanced skills related to the Microsoft Office suite, spreadsheet, database, project scheduling and presentation software required
- Demonstrated ability to exhibit tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
- Proven analytical skills with superior accuracy and attention to details
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent listening and customer service skills
- Demonstrated system thinking and the ability to provide guidance to others using a consultative approach
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including the ability to respond politely and confidentially to both internal and external inquiries
- Demonstrated ability to understand HR systems and provide suggestions and solutions for system’s efficiency
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the BC Employment Standards
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and rapport with others
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload and work under time pressures to meet deadlines
- Strong ability to collaborative effectively as part of a team as well as work independently and resolve administrative issues/problems
- Demonstrated flexibility to meet and adapt to changes in organizational priorities
- Experience recruiting in the information technologies field is an asset.
- Experience with HRIS implementation is an asset.
